‘No Ban on Turning Right at Red Traffic Lights’

The Kingdom’s traffic department has rejected reports that it has banned drivers from turning right at red traffic lights.

Brig. Gen. Ali Rashidi told Arab News on Monday that journalists must check their facts with the department and not rely on social media websites for their information.

Al-Rashidi said that the Saher traffic system has not recorded anyone being photographed and fined SR500 for turning right at a red traffic light.

He said it is not true that the traffic department has issued new regulations for drivers on this matter. “The system that has been in place for a long time is that drivers must stop for two seconds at red traffic lights before proceeding.”

Al-Rashidi said the Saher system has helped reduce congestion and saved the lives of many people by curbing the recklessness of some drivers on the nation’s roads.

In reports last week, some drivers had claimed that they had been fined SR500 for turning right at red traffic signals. They claimed that Saher cameras had filmed them doing so.
